JAKARTA - IMAC Film Festival 2026 successfully strengthened the creative industry ecosystem, especially Indonesian films. This series of events presents short films from the collaboration of the Santri Film Festival (SANFFEST) which is the result of the creativity of the santri.

Supported by the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, IMAC 2026 will be held at Taman Ismail Marzuki and also FIB UI on April 16-18, 2026. The festival is the result of collaboration between the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences of the University of Indonesia (ILUNI UI FIB) and the Suka Sinema Community.

IMAC Film Festival 2026 at FIB UI is a space for educating the process of adapting works and developing cross-platform storytelling capacity for the country's creative industries.

The Expert Staff of the Ministry of Culture and Chairman of the SANFFEST Committee Neno Warisman, said that in encouraging creativity, it needs to be given the widest possible space. The existence of textual literacy cannot stop from merely reading reality, but can be processed into visual creations that give birth to works and values.

"We in the Ministry of Culture, view that not only the peak of victory is seen, but also stimulates any potential that can encourage the birth of leaders in various lines, layers, and fields. The point is, the process is important, and we should not stop, keep working," said Neno Warisman in his speech at the FIB UI Depok campus.

At least there are three works of the Santri Film Festival (SANFFEST) that are played, including Tujuh Hari Setelah Bapak Berpulang, Iman dan Imam, and the Last Rajah. All three were able to attract the attention of UI student audiences.

The Chairman of ILUNI UI FIB, Visna Vulovik, said that this collaboration is a strategic step in supporting the work of alumni and strengthening the contribution of ILUNI UI FIB in the creative industry ecosystem.

"This collaboration is an important milestone for ILUNI UI FIB. We want to present a space that not only appreciates the works of young filmmakers, but also opens a wider space for dialogue regarding the creative process, especially in the adaptation of literary works to the audiovisual medium," Visna added.

In the talk show titled "From Books to the Cinema: Taking Care of Memories, Celebrating Diversity in Na Willa" discusses the process of adapting literary works into films, the differences in the perspectives of novel writers and scriptwriters, and the importance of maintaining the value of diversity and cultural memory in audiovisual works.

The event featured Reda Gaudiamo (writer of Na Willa), Novia Puspa Sari (Producer of Na Willa and Head of Production Visinema Studios), and Suma Riella Rusdiarti (film academic and FIB UI lecturer).

In addition to the talk show, the opening was also filled with the screening of short films by the finalists, namely Rights, Ignored, and Echoes From Fading Island which raised the theme of "Silent Struggles". These films highlight the stories of individuals who face economic, social, and emotional pressures, and portray the struggle to survive.

Added by the Executive Chair of IMAC 2026, Sri Bandoro, said that the collaboration with SANFFEST aims to expand the reach of short films to the campus environment and students. "We want short films to be closer to students, alumni, and the wider community, as well as encourage more young people to work," he said.

IMAC Film Festival 2026 also presents a masterclass with Cianicolay entitled "Directing & Storytelling High Quality for Digital Platforms", which focuses on strengthening storytelling and directing skills for digital platforms. This session is expected to encourage creators to not only be oriented towards algorithms, but also the quality of narration and cinematic power.
