JAKARTA - The development of MRT Jakarta phase 2A shows new progress. The rail connecting phase 1 and phase 2A has now been connected, marked by the completion of the track bed casting in the northbound tunnel (northbound) from HI roundabout to Thamrin Station.
Director of Construction of PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) Weni Maulina said that after the work was completed, the next phase would be continued to the opposite side.
"The casting of the track bed (base layer of the rail) of the northbound tunnel (north direction) from HI Roundabout to Thamrin Station has been completed. Next, the MRT Jakarta team and the contractor will start work on casting the track bed of the southbound tunnel (south direction) of HI-Thamrin Roundabout," said Weni in his statement, Friday, April 17.
He explained that the work method was carried out in stages because the project also began to enter the installation phase of supporting facilities.
With the completion of phase 1 and 2A lines, construction work now continues to the next segment, namely Thamrin to Monas, both for the north and south lines.
"We target the completion of the second track bed casting of the tunnel by the end of 2026. We are optimistic that the completion of all civil works will be completed by the end of 2027 so that the integrating, commissioning, and testing (ICT) phase can be carried out immediately before the operation of the HI-Monas 1 segment is carried out," said Weni.
Overall, the progress of the MRT phase 2A construction until March 2026 has reached 59.19 percent, surpassing the target of 57.52 percent. This project is targeted to be completed in stages, with the HI-Monas roundabout segment operating by the end of 2027 and the overall until the City by 2029.
Significant developments can also be seen in a number of contract packages. In the CP201 package, the construction progress has reached 92.3 percent. Meanwhile, CP202 which includes the construction of stations and tunnels in Harmoni, Sawah Besar, and Mangga Besar has reached 64.13 percent.
The CP203 package was recorded at 83.72 percent, with a target completion in 2029. Meanwhile, the railway and rail system package (CP205) has reached 42.69 percent, including rail welding and track bed casting work.
From a technical perspective, this project uses a direct fixation track rail system with precast concrete bearings (PC Sleeper) that has a durability of up to 50 years. In addition, synthetic bearing materials are also used in some parts, such as wedges and intersections, to increase construction efficiency and ease of maintenance.
For rail splicing, MRT Jakarta applies the continuous welded rail (CWR) method with flash butt welding and thermit welding techniques. This method was chosen because it produces a strong, corrosion-resistant, and stable connection to temperature changes.
Phase 2A of the Jakarta MRT will connect HI Roundabout to the City along approximately 5.8 kilometers with seven underground stations, namely Thamrin, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, and City. This project is financed through a loan cooperation between the Indonesian and Japanese governments worth around IDR 25.3 trillion.
Meanwhile, the continued development of phase 2B which connects the city to Depo Ancol Barat is currently still in the feasibility study stage.
