Tasikmalaya - The Tasikmalaya Regional Police has arrested a young man who had been on the run for a month after stealing Rp8.9 million in cash at the Singaparna Public Fuel Filling Station (SPBU), Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java.

"The suspect was arrested in the Cigalontang District, Tasikmalaya after being on the run after the incident," said Acting Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Garut Police, Ipda Agus Yusup Suryana, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, April 16.

He said, the suspect with the initials FF (23) was arrested in connection with a criminal case of theft with a charge that occurred at the Rancamaya SPBU, Singaparna on March 13, 2026.

The police, after receiving information, immediately moved to carry out the crime scene and then examined witnesses and surveillance camera footage in the gas station area.

"Based on the results of analyzing CCTV footage and information from the community, the team managed to identify the whereabouts of the perpetrator," he said.

He said the suspect's action was pretending to fill up a motorcycle with his friend to queue at the gas station, then the suspect waited around the fuel filling machine.

The suspect's goal, he said, was to deliberately get off the motorcycle and wait at the place to approach the money storage while waiting for the officer to be distracted in the middle of serving customers.

"When the officers were distracted, they quickly opened the drawer and took one bag containing cash and immediately hid it in the jacket," he said.

The suspect, he said, immediately fled, not long after the gas station officer realized that the money in the bag had been stolen, then reported to the management to check the surveillance camera.

He said that as a result of his actions, the suspect must now be detained in the Tasikmalaya Police cell, along with the evidence of the motorcycle he used to carry out the crime.

Meanwhile, the suspect's friends who were queuing at the gas station, he said, were appointed as witnesses because they were not proven to be involved, and did not know the actions taken by the suspect at the gas station.

As a result of his actions, the suspect is now in the detention cell of the Tasikmalaya Police Headquarters and is entangled with Article 477 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code regarding theft with a charge of seven years in prison.
