SUMEDANG - The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Sumedang Police, West Java, has traced the alleged case of sexual violence in the environment of Padjadjaran University (Unpad).

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Sumedang Police, AKP Tanwin Nopiansah, said his party was still investigating the information that was circulating.

"We are still investigating the news, for what the incident was like," he said in Sumedang, Thursday, April 16.

The case was brought to public attention after a statement of position was uploaded by the Unpad Student Family Student Executive Board (BEM Kema) through social media.

He also said that the police would immediately follow up on the case if there was an official report from the victim of sexual violence.

"Of course, if the victim reports officially, we will follow up on the incident," he said.

Meanwhile, Unpad Public Relations Officer Dandi Supriadi asked the media to wait for the official statement to be issued soon. "Wait, I'm still having a meeting," he said briefly when contacted.

Previously, the BEM Kema Unpad in its official statement said that the alleged sexual violence involved a professor in the campus environment and had coordinated with the parties concerned.

On the other hand, Unpad conveyed its commitment to follow up and enforce the handling of all cases of violence in the campus environment, including those involving professors, to ensure a safe space for academicians.

Unpad also stated that it would release official information within 1x24 hours regarding future prevention and handling measures, while the Unpad Kema BEM confirmed that it would continue to monitor the commitment.
