JAKARTA - Preparations for the 2026 Hajj service are almost complete. However, the distribution of Nusuk cards, the official identity of pilgrims to access various services while in Saudi Arabia, is still an obstacle because some of the cards that have arrived in Indonesia have not left Customs.

Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf said the Nusuk card had actually arrived in Indonesia since last Saturday, but the issuance process was still stalled.

"The Nusuk card arrived in Indonesia last Saturday but has not left the Customs," Gus Irfan said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, April 15.

He explained that the government is currently helping the syarikah so that the card can be issued immediately and distributed directly to the pilgrims while still at the embarkation.

This step is taken so that the pilgrims have already held and activated the Nusuk card before departing for the Holy Land.

"We hope that this Nusuk card can be distributed and activated to the pilgrims while they are still at the Indonesian embarkation," he said.

According to Gus Irfan, last year's hajj experience showed that card distribution in Saudi Arabia triggered many obstacles. Not a few pilgrims were late in receiving cards, even though the document is very important for identity, mobility, and access to basic services and worship areas.

As a result, a number of worshipers had difficulty moving, including when they wanted to enter the Grand Mosque.

Therefore, the government is now pursuing that all Nusuk cards are in the hands of pilgrims before the departure of the first batch which is scheduled for April 22, 2026.

If the distribution is delayed again, it is feared that old problems will recur, namely that pilgrims arrive in Saudi Arabia without service identities which are actually very needed since the beginning of their arrival.
