JAKARTA - The Ministry of Culture expressed support for efforts to strengthen the historical and cultural values of Tumbang Anoi, a Dayak customary peace heritage in Central Kalimantan. The support was conveyed in a meeting between Culture Minister Fadli Zon and the Indigenous Community Element (Emas Dayak) in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 14.

During the meeting, Emas Dayak highlighted the weakening of the application of customary law in Kalimantan. Chairman of Emas Dayak, Mandeh, said Tumbang Anoi was not just a historical event, but a milestone of customary peace that had great value and was widely known.

He said that customary law which was formulated and enacted in 1894 is now considered no longer to run as it should. Therefore, Emas Dayak encourages government support to revive the values of Tumbang Anoi, while reaffirming its position as customary law that must be obeyed by the indigenous people.

"We hope that the customary law that was compiled by our grandfather, Damang Batu, and the representatives of the tribe at that time, can be re-established and not excluded. Hopefully it can get support from the government, especially the Ministry of Culture," said Mandeh.

The mentor and advisor of Emas Dayak, H.R.M. Soekarna, also asked the government to introduce the history of Tumbang Anoi to the public. According to Soekarna, the heritage is worthy of being placed as an important part of national cultural wealth.

Dayak Gold also proposed a parade or traditional event in collaboration with National Awakening Day on May 20, 2026. The activity is planned to spread the Red and White flag along 118 meters, involving students, universities, TNI, Polri, as well as Dayak and Nusantara traditional performances.

Responding to the proposal, Fadli Zon said the government supports the preservation of culture and strengthening the narrative of the history of indigenous people, including Tumbang Anoi as an important part of the history of peace of the Dayak tribe.

"We as the government strongly support various efforts that can advance national culture, including strengthening historical narratives such as Tumbang Anoi. The strengthening of the legal value of the Tumbang Anoi adat can also be collaborated with the Ministry of Law," said Fadli Zon.

He assessed that the strengthening of the value of the Tumbang Anoi customary law could be collaborated with the Ministry of Law. Meanwhile, for the implementation of cultural activities, Emas Dayak can involve the Central Kalimantan Cultural Preservation Center so that the follow-up is more effective and measurable.

The meeting was also attended by the Expert Staff of the Minister for Legal and Cultural Policy Masyitoh Annisa Ramadhani Alkatiri and the Secretary of the Directorate General of Cultural and Traditional Protection Lita Rahmiati.
