Illegal Parking at Lebak Bulus MRT Causes Traffic, Pramono asks the Mayor of Jakarta to take action

JAKARTA - The practice of illegal parking around the Lebak Bulus MRT Station has been complained about by the public because it is considered increasingly chaotic and disturbing traffic. Vehicles, especially motorbikes, are seen parked haphazardly to take up the road.

Complaints from residents are also circulating widely on social media. A number of videos show a row of parked motorcycles stretching along the side of the road, leaving little room for passing vehicles.

This condition triggers traffic jams, especially during rush hour after work. Not only that, pedestrians are forced to get off the road because the sidewalk is covered by vehicles, increasing the risk of accidents.

Responding to this, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung ensured that illegal parking would be carried out, including in the Lebak Bulus area.

He emphasized that the arrangement was not done instantly, but gradually as it has been in other areas in Jakarta.

"So now it's like what happened in Central Jakarta, for example behind Grand Indonesia which has never been cleaned up for more than 20 years," said Pramono in Central Jakarta, Friday, April 10.

According to him, several points that were previously known as illegal parking locations are now being arranged by the provincial government.

"Now we are cleaning up, including those at Cipto Hospital, RSCM, we are also cleaning up and other places that are parked illegally, including those in Rasuna Said yesterday," said Pramono.

For the South Jakarta area, Pramono said he would give special instructions to the local mayor to lead directly the crackdown on the ground.

"Well, in the south I will specifically ask the Mayor of South Jakarta to lead it which we just said," said Pramono.

Meanwhile, the Head of the South Jakarta Transportation Office, Bernad Octavianus Pasaribu, admitted that the parking conditions around the Lebak Bulus MRT Station were not well arranged.

He said the management of parking at the location was still under the supervision of the Parking Management Unit (UP), but the pattern that occurred at this time was considered inappropriate.

"It is still a UP Parking facility, but it should not be like that parking pattern," said Bernad.

As an initial step in handling, his party will hold a cross-agency coordination meeting next week. The meeting will involve the head of the village, the head of the village, the UP Parking, Sudinhub, to the parking management to find a more assertive solution in the field.
