JAKARTA - The Coordinating Ministry for People's Empowerment (Kemenko PM) has ensured that all Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) who were sent to Japan on April 3, 2026 have been registered and have received social security protection through BPJS Employment.

This certainty was emphasized in the PMI release activity, as well as to ensure that workers who depart procedurally have entered the labor protection system.

Coordinating Minister for Social Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) said social protection was an important aspect in ensuring the safety and comfort of Indonesian migrant workers while working abroad.

"I want our PMI to continue to work comfortably. Income certainty and protection, indeed, the social protection of BPJS workers is continuously optimized," said Cak Imin, Wednesday, April 8.

In addition to ensuring membership, the PMI also receives training related to social security benefits. Education is provided through information materials and brochures so that workers understand the protection rights they receive during their work abroad.

The government considers that PMI protection cannot be partial. It requires the involvement of cross-ministries, institutions, to Indonesian representatives abroad to strengthen the system that is already running.

"This social protection cannot run on its own. It must involve all parties so that the benefits are truly felt by our migrant workers," said Cak Imin.

Muhaimin also encouraged the strengthening of synergy between institutions so that PMI protection could be more comprehensive, from before departure to during work in the destination country.

"I invite all ministries and agencies to work hard to ensure that every PMI in various countries has access to adequate protection," he explained.

For information, BPJS Employment social security does not only apply to workers in the country, but also includes Indonesian citizens who work officially abroad.

Referring to PP Number 59 of 2021, PMI is an Indonesian citizen who will, is, or has worked by receiving wages outside the territory of Indonesia. This status is obtained after the prospective worker meets all requirements, including work training, certification, and BPJS Employment membership.

The government reminds people who want to work abroad to ensure that the placement process is carried out officially and according to procedures, to ensure protection during work.
