JAKARTA - The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy on Sunday said the Strait of Hormuz would never return to its previous state, especially for the US and Israel, as Tehran seeks to implement new security arrangements for the Persian Gulf, aimed at excluding what it considers hostile actors.
"The Strait of Hormuz will never return to its original state, especially for the US and Israel," the IRGC Navy said in a post on the X social media platform, Anadolu reported (6/4).
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy is in the final stages of operational preparations for what Iranian officials have described as a "new order for the Persian Gulf."
The statement came days after Iran's parliament approved a bill in committee that would impose transit fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian media reported that the proposal includes transit fees to be paid in the Iranian national currency, the rial, a transit ban for the US and Israel, and restrictions on countries participating in unilateral sanctions against Iran.
The draft also includes provisions related to Iran's sovereignty over the strait, the authority of its armed forces, maritime security, environmental issues and legal cooperation with Oman.
