JAKARTA - The English 1 English language school network held a fundraising action entitled "English 1 Unite for Sumatra" as a form of concern for children and families affected by floods in several areas on the island of Sumatra. The activity, which took place in Menteng, Jakarta, on Wednesday, April 1, became a meeting point for collaboration between parents, partners, and humanitarian agencies in a solidarity movement.

Through this campaign, English 1 targets a fund-raising of IDR 100 million. The fundraising has started since January through the KitaBisa platform and reached its peak in the fundraising night event which was also filled with live fundraising sessions.

A number of agency representatives were also present at the event, including from Save the Children Indonesia, which is a partner in distributing assistance. Their presence confirms the collaborative approach between the education sector and humanitarian organizations in responding to disasters.

Operation Director English 1, Christopher Lloyd, emphasized that this initiative not only focuses on material assistance, but also on learning values for students. He said that character education can grow through direct involvement in social action. According to him, when the community moves together, the resulting impact becomes much wider.

Meanwhile, English 1 Marketing Director, Rhea Danaparamita, explained that the funds collected would be focused on meeting basic needs such as food, clean water, and health services. The assistance is targeted to reach around 250 thousand beneficiaries, including 170 thousand children in the North Sumatra, Aceh, and West Sumatra regions.

Rhea added that the process of collecting and distributing assistance was carried out transparently and accountable. The KitaBisa platform plays a role in ensuring the safety of donations, while Save the Children Indonesia will distribute assistance directly to beneficiaries in the field.

This initiative is part of the "Super Parents: Kindness in Action" campaign which is carried out continuously by English 1. In the program, various social activities are held in a number of areas, ranging from donation collection during Ramadan, breaking the fast together with the community, to the "Junior Learning Buddies" education program.

The last program is one of the most interesting, where middle-level students are given the opportunity to teach children from the surrounding community. They must go through the selection process like an internship, starting from sending a letter of motivation, interview, to training before teaching.

According to Rhea, this series of activities is not just a seasonal agenda, but an effort to build a consistent culture of sharing in the educational environment. He emphasized that educational institutions have an important role in instilling social awareness and responsibility for others.

By making humanitarian action a part of the learning process, English 1 tries to shift the paradigm of education from merely academic to character formation.
