JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has requested a halt to demolition activities on Jalan Teuku Umar No. 2, Gondangdia, Menteng, Central Jakarta, because it is in a cultural heritage area.

The request was addressed to the Commander of the Indonesian National Army and the Director of PT Temasra Jaya through an official letter numbered e-0030/KR.03.01 dated March 17, 2026, which was signed by the Head of the Jakarta Central Office of the Department of Construction, Spatial Planning, and Land, Yunita Indrasti Retno Vitari.

In the letter it was emphasized that the building at the location is included in the category of B-class cultural heritage buildings based on the 1991 DKI Jakarta Governor's Instruction. This means that the building cannot be demolished, except to be rebuilt according to its original form if it is damaged.

In addition, every maintenance activity or change to a cultural heritage building must be consulted and obtain technical approval from the Regional Government and the DKI Jakarta Culture Service.

"Based on these things, it is requested to stop the demolition activities without any technical recommendations or approvals from the Culture Service," the letter reads.

In response to this, PT Temasra Jaya stated that it had received the notification letter and expressed appreciation for the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government's decisive step in protecting the cultural heritage area.

The lawyer for PT Temasra Jaya, Petrus Selestinus, said his party supports efforts to discipline activities that are considered to be against the law.

"We appreciate and support the regional government's firm stance in protecting cultural heritage areas and buildings from arbitrary actions," he said, Saturday, March 28.

Petrus also said that his party had written a letter to the Governor of DKI Jakarta and related institutions, and claimed that PT Temasra Jaya was the legitimate owner of the land and building, which was evidenced by the building right certificate (SHGB).

He added that his party had sent a summons to the TNI Headquarters regarding the alleged encroachment of land and the destruction of buildings since November 2025.

"We ask that the building be returned to its original condition as part of the cultural heritage area, and that action be taken against those who violate it," he said.

This case is still a concern because it concerns the protection of historic buildings as well as land ownership disputes in strategic areas of the capital.
