JAKARTA - Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar emphasized that digital spaces require a strong religious and ethical foundation in the family and education environment to ensure that children are ready to fill digital spaces.
"The digital space needs a religious and ethical foundation. We want to ensure that the religious and ethical foundations are firmly embedded in the family and education environment before they step into the digital world," said the Minister of Religion as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, March 28.
He ensured that the Ministry of Religion fully supports the derivative rules of the Government Regulation (PP) on the Governance of the Electronic System in Child Protection or known as PP Tunas (Wait for the Child to be Ready).
The Minister of Religion emphasized that the derivative rules of PP Tunas, which are contained in the Minister of Communication and Information Regulation No. 9 of 2026 which delays access to social media for children under 16 years of age starting today, March 28, 2026, is not a restriction.
The rule is a state protection for the growth and development of children under the age of 16.
The Minister of Religion instructed all levels in madrasahs and religious and religious education institutions to strictly monitor the implementation of this policy.
This momentum, said the Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque, must be utilized by educational institutions to optimize digital literacy based on the strengthening of religious and ethical foundations in depth.
He also invited teachers, kiai, and parents to accompany children with love. Cooperation between the educational environment and the family is the key to ensuring that this regulation has a real impact in the field.
"We are ready to prepare them to become a generation that is not only digitally intelligent, but also knowledgeable, moral, and responsible," said the Minister of Religion.
Previously, the Minister of Communication and Information Technology (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid emphasized that the Indonesian government would not compromise with digital platforms that do not comply with the mandate to protect children in the digital space in line with Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Protection of Governance of Electronic Systems in the Protection of Children (PP Tunas).
"The government instructs all digital platforms that do business in Indonesia to immediately align products, features, and services in accordance with applicable regulations. There is no compromise in terms of compliance, and every business entity operating in Indonesia must comply with applicable laws in Indonesia," said Meutya.
Meutya appreciated two digital platforms, namely X and Bigo Live, which had full compliance with PP Tunas. He also welcomed TikTok and Roblox platforms, which were categorized as platforms that were partially cooperative with PP Tunas.
Meanwhile, the other four platforms, Facebook, Threads, Instagram, and YouTube, have not yet met the provisions of the PP Tunas.
PP Tunas is effective from March 28, 2026 and every business entity that operates digitally must comply with the provisions of the regulation.
