JAKARTA - The leader of the Yemeni Houthi group said on Thursday that his party was "not neutral" in the ongoing war between Iran and the United States and Israel, warning that his party would intervene militarily if regional developments required it.

"We are not neutral, but our position comes from our belief in Islam and the Islamic state," Abdul-Malik al-Houthi said in a televised speech and quoted by the group's Al-Masirah television, Anadolu (27/3) reported.

"Any developments on the ground will be responded to with military action if necessary, as in previous rounds," he continued.

Al-Houti said the US-Israeli attack on Iran had harmed the economic interests of countries in the world and regional security and stability, calling the attack "unjustified."

"Developments in this region over the past few years show that the US and Israel are trying to implement a Zionist plan that targets all countries in the region with the aim of changing the Middle East and creating Greater Israel," he explained.

Backed by Iran, the Houthis have controlled most of Yemen's provinces, including the capital Sanaa, since 2014.

The group has carried out missile and drone attacks on Israel and ships passing through the Red Sea in retaliation for Israel's deadly offensive in the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 72,000 people since October 2023.

It is known that the US and Israel have carried out air raids against Iran since February 28, which have so far killed more than 1,340 people, including the then Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

Iran retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage as well as disrupting global markets and flights.
