BEIJING - The Chinese government has called for an end to the conflict in the Middle East region to coincide with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stressed that the use of violence is not a solution to resolving the ongoing conflict in the region.
"History and reality have repeatedly shown that the use of violence is not a solution and armed conflict will only create new hatred," Lin Jian said at a press conference, quoted by Antara, Saturday, March 21.
He asked all parties involved in the conflict to immediately stop military operations to prevent the situation from getting worse.
According to him, the escalating conflict not only impacts regional stability, but also affects global sectors such as energy, finance, trade, and international shipping routes.
"This conflict has a direct impact on energy availability, financial conditions, trade stability, and shipping traffic around the world," he said.
China also said it would continue to push for mediation efforts to stop the fighting and restore regional stability. Tensions in the Middle East have escalated since a joint Israeli-US attack on Iran on February 28, which reportedly killed around 1,300 people, including Iran's then-supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.
In response, Iran launched drone and missile attacks on a number of areas including Israel, Jordan, Iraq, as well as Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stressed that his country would not hold back if it was attacked again.
The Iranian military reportedly targeted a number of strategic locations such as West Jerusalem, Haifa, to the Al Dhafra air base in the United Arab Emirates.
The escalation of this conflict also impacts the world's vital energy routes, namely the Strait of Hormuz, which has experienced disruptions in the traffic of oil and liquefied natural gas shipments from the Gulf region.
On the other hand, Israel has stepped up its air raids in Lebanon since the beginning of March amid its conflict with Hezbollah, despite a previous ceasefire agreement since November 2024.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health has recorded at least 1,001 people killed and 2,584 injured as a result of the attack since March 2, including children and women.
The situation also impacts the implementation of worship, where Israeli authorities prohibit Eid al-Fitr prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in East Jerusalem on security grounds.
However, Palestinians still call on Muslims to perform prayers as close as possible to the area as a sign of the end of Ramadan.
