JAKARTA - The Iranian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism said that the US and Israeli attacks had destroyed more than 100 historical sites in the country.

"The number of historical and cultural sites damaged by the US and Zionist regime attacks in various places has reached 108," the ministry said, quoted by the Tasnim news agency as reported by Sputnik, Tuesday, March 17.

Of those, 60 sites are located in Tehran, 19 in Isfahan, and 12 in the northwestern Kurdistan province.

On February 28, the United States and Israel began attacking a number of targets in Iran, including Tehran. The attack caused damage, civilian casualties and killed the Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khameni.

Iran then retaliated for the military aggression by attacking Israeli territory, as well as US military targets in the Middle East.
