JAKARTA - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has called for the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque to be immediately opened to give the right to Palestinian Muslims to worship and celebrate Eid al-Fitr.

"Malaysia calls for the Al-Aqsa gate to be opened immediately. The continued closure of Al-Aqsa is unjustified and a clear violation of international law," Anwar said in a statement quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, March 17.

He said that while Muslims around the world were preparing to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the Israeli occupation forces still closed the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Muslims were denied the right to worship at the third holiest site in Islam, until the last days of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

"Israel's actions have no legitimate basis, either in law, morality, or in the concept of genuine human dignity," said Anwar Ibrahim.

The sustainability of the closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque gate, said Anwar, reflects the increasing level of impunity over time.

Malaysia calls on all parties with real influence in this matter, to do more than just make statements but also exert real pressure to ensure the immediate opening of the mosque.

Furthermore, he conveyed that in this difficult condition, the faith, patience, and firmness of the Palestinian Muslim people are visible.

Anwar said the people of Malaysia would continue to speak up and act as best they could to fight for the rights of Palestinian Muslims.
