JAKARTA - The National Hospital of Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM) provided the latest information regarding the condition of Andrie Yunus alias AY (27) who suffered burns due to exposure to chemical liquids on the face and several parts of the body.
According to the Legal and Public Relations Manager of RSCM Yoga Nara, the patient came to the RSCM Emergency Room (IGD) on Friday (13/3) early morning at around 12.00 WIB.
"With complaints of burns to the face, neck, chest, back, and both arms, accompanied by visual impairment in the right eye," said Yoga as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, March 17.
Upon arrival at the Emergency Room, the medical team immediately conducted a preliminary examination and stabilization measures.
"Examination using pH indicators shows exposure to acidic chemical substances in the wound area," said Yoga.
As an initial treatment, the medical team performed irrigation or washing on the exposed area to reduce the effects of chemicals and normalize tissue conditions.
Yoga said that when he entered the emergency room, the initial diagnosis was that there was a burn of about 24 percent due to the inflammatory reaction of the hard liquid that hit the skin.
"The wounds are mainly on the face, especially on the right side, including the right eye, both hands, and the chest," said Yoga.
Then, according to the medical assessment of the Responsible Doctor (DPJP), there was a correction of the medical assessment stating that Andrie Yunus suffered burns of about 20 percent on the body area as well as chemical trauma to the right eye with a degree of severity of level three in the acute phase.
"This condition causes a sharp decrease in vision and damage to the surface of the cornea," explained Yoga.
To deal with this condition, he said the patient underwent a procedure to clean the damaged tissue in the right eye and an amniotic membrane transplant to protect the eye surface and support the healing process.
Furthermore, the patient was treated in the High Care Unit (HCU) for burns to receive comprehensive monitoring and further treatment by a multidisciplinary medical team consisting of ophthalmologists, reconstructive plastic surgeons, and emergency medical teams.
"The therapy provided includes wound care, antibiotic administration, anti-inflammatory drugs, vitamins, and treatment to keep eye pressure under control," said Yoga.
Currently, he said, the general condition of the patient is stable and not life-threatening. Medical treatment continues to be carried out gradually, according to the development of the patient's condition.
"Including the possibility of reconstructive measures of the network and subsequent procedures to help optimize the recovery of visual function," said Yoga.
