JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission X of the DPR, Hetifah Sjaifudian, supports the Joint Decree (SKB) of seven ministers regarding Guidelines for the Use and Learning of Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence (Artificial Intelligence/AI) in formal, non-formal, and informal education.

According to him, the issuance of SK 7 by the Minister is a proactive step to protect students from the ease of technology that can undermine efforts to learn.

"We consider the policy in the 7-Minister SKB that limits the use of instant AI for elementary school students to high school students as a proper anticipatory step to protect the learning process of children. Our concern is that the ease of obtaining instant answers can hinder the development of critical thinking, creativity, and academic honesty of students," said Hetifah, Monday, March 16.

According to him, this policy is also a reminder that strengthening the foundation of basic education must not be defeated by the ease of technology that has the potential to make the learning process shallow.

Hetifah emphasized that education must continue to place the process of thinking, exploration, and understanding as the main thing in learning.

"In its implementation, supervision cannot be imposed on one party. We encourage a collaborative approach between schools, teachers, parents, and the government. Schools need to design tasks that emphasize the process and analysis skills of students. On the other hand, parents also need to play an active role in supervising the use of gadgets at home," he explained.

The government is also expected to prepare clear technical guidelines, as well as strengthen digital literacy training for educators so that they are able to direct the use of technology wisely in the school environment.

"In the end, the purpose of this policy is not just to prohibit, but to build student awareness so that they are able to use technology responsibly, as a tool to help in learning, not as a shortcut," explained Hetifah.

If there is indeed a plan to develop its own platform, continued Hetifah, Commission X of the DPR will certainly be very supportive. He assessed that the presence of a safe educational AI platform designed specifically for children will be a strategic solution.

"This is in line with our efforts to protect students from negative content, while providing a healthy, productive digital learning space and supporting the development of their abilities," he concluded.

It is known that the government issued national guidelines for the use of digital technology and artificial intelligence in education through the signing of a Joint Decree (SKB) by seven ministers on Thursday, March 12.

Joint Decree (SKB) of seven ministers regarding Guidelines for the Utilization and Learning of Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence (Artificial Intelligence/AI) in formal, non-formal, and informal education.

The signing of the SKB involved seven ministries, namely the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Religion, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, the Ministry of Communication and Digital, the Ministry of Population and Family Development/BKKBN, and the Ministry of Empowerment of Women and Child Protection.

This SKB is a strategic step for the government to ensure that the use of digital technology and artificial intelligence in education is carried out wisely, directed, and in accordance with the readiness of learners at various levels of education, from early childhood education to higher education, as well as in non-formal and informal education in the family and community environment.
