JAKARTA - The Central Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Unit arrested four men suspected of distributing illegal hard drugs at a number of locations around Tanah Abang Station.

Head of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Kombes Reynold E.P Hutagalung, said his party would not give room for perpetrators of illegal drug circulation in his jurisdiction.

"We will not give space for perpetrators of illegal drug trafficking in the Central Jakarta area," said Reynold in Jakarta, Sunday, March 15.

He emphasized that every public report would be followed up to maintain public safety and health.

The arrests were made by the Unit 1 and Unit 2 Narcotics Unit of the Central Jakarta Metro Police on Saturday (14/3) evening after receiving reports from the public regarding the rampant drug transactions in the area.

According to Reynold, his party is committed to eradicating the circulation of illegal hard drugs that have the potential to damage society, especially the younger generation.

Head of Narcotics Investigation at the Central Jakarta Metro Police AKBP Wisnu S. Kuncoro explained that the arrests were made at several different crime scenes (TKP) in Central Jakarta.

The four perpetrators who were arrested were initials AA (53), DS (37), RA (21), and FA (23).

The perpetrators were arrested in four different locations, namely at a grocery store on Jalan Cempaka Putih Utara, Cempaka Baru Village, Kemayoran District, then in front of Tanah Abang Station, and on Jalan Jembatan Tinggi, Kebon Kacang Village, Tanah Abang District.

From the hands of the suspects, the police confiscated evidence in the form of 1,594 pieces of tramadol, 302 pieces of heximer, and 218 pieces of trihexyphenidyl.

In addition, the police also secured several mobile phones, cash of more than Rp4 million which was allegedly the proceeds of the sale, and an electric motorcycle used by the perpetrators.

Wisnu said the disclosure of this case began with community information regarding the rampant drug transactions at a number of points in Central Jakarta.

Following up on the report, officers conducted an investigation until they finally managed to secure the perpetrators.

"After an investigation, the members managed to secure four people suspected of being dealers. During the search, thousands of hard drugs were found ready to be distributed," he said.

Currently, the four suspects have been taken to the Narcotics Unit of the Central Jakarta Metro Police to undergo further examination.

The police are also still developing the case to uncover the possibility of other perpetrators involved in the illegal drug trafficking network.

The suspects are known to sell the drugs freely without a doctor's prescription.

"We are still exploring the possibility of other circulation networks," said Wisnu.

As a result of their actions, the suspects were charged with the provisions of Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health related to the production or circulation of pharmaceutical preparations that do not meet safety, efficacy, and quality standards.

They are threatened with imprisonment of up to 12 years or a fine of up to Rp5 billion.
