JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed alleged extortion practices involving Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman regarding requests for funds from a number of local government organizations (OPD) in the Cilacap Regency Government, Central Java.
The funds are said to be used for various purposes, including Eid al-Fitr (THR) allowances.
The Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK, Asep Guntur Rahayu, explained that Syamsul Auliya initially targeted the collection of funds of Rp. 750 million from a number of regional devices. The request was then forwarded to the Cilacap Regional Secretary, Sadmoko Danardono.
"For the external Rp515 million, then there is also for personal needs. So, it is planned to ask for Rp750 million," said Asep at the KPK Red and White Building, Jakarta, Saturday (14/3) evening.
Asep said Sadmoko then ordered three officials in the Cilacap Regional Secretariat to collect the funds, namely Assistant I to the Cilacap Regional Secretary Sumbowo, Assistant II to the Cilacap Regional Secretary Ferry Adhi Dharma, and Assistant III to the Cilacap Regional Secretary Budi Santoso. The money collection was carried out by asking for a deposit from a number of regional units which amounted to 47 work units.
In the process, not all of the target funds were successfully collected. Until mid-March 2026, some of the regional devices had deposited some money through the Assistant II of the Regional Secretary.
"In the period from March 9-13, 2026, as many as 23 Cilacap Regency regional devices have deposited requests from AUL collected through FER with a total of Rp. 610 million. So, what has been collected in that period is Rp. 610 million," said Asep.
The money collected is planned to be handed over to the Cilacap Regional Secretary. However, before it could be used, the KPK team first carried out law enforcement actions.
According to Asep, the money was even put into several gift bags before it was finally secured by investigators as evidence.
Previously, on March 13, 2026, the KPK announced that it had carried out a hand-in-hand operation (OTT) which was the ninth operation throughout 2026 and the third during the month of Ramadan.
During the operation, KPK investigators secured Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman along with 26 other people. The KPK also seized a number of cash in rupiah currency.
The KPK said the operation was related to the alleged receipt of money related to projects in the Cilacap Regency Government environment.
A day later, on March 14, 2026, the KPK officially named Syamsul Auliya Rachman and Cilacap Regional Secretary Sadmoko Danardono as suspects in the case of alleged extortion and other receipts in the Cilacap Regency Government for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
