JAKARTA - Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Tuesday said that violations of its airspace were unacceptable, his counterpart Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran would investigate, as the two discussed ballistic missiles heading to Iran.
During the call, Foreign Minister Fidan stressed that "the violation of Turkish airspace is unacceptable" and underlined that Turkey "will continue to take all necessary measures to fight it," according to diplomatic sources, reported by Anadolu (11/3).
Foreign Minister Fidan also stressed that all parties must refrain from actions that could undermine regional security or pose a risk to civilians.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Araghchi, on the other hand, stated that the missile directed at Turkish airspace "did not come from Iran" and confirmed that a thorough investigation into the incident would be carried out.
Previously, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also warned that violations of Turkish airspace were not justified and would take firm action, during a telephone call with President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Turkish National Defense Ministry said on Monday that a ballistic missile fired from Iran into Turkish airspace had been neutralized by NATO air and missile defense assets deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean.
He said some debris from the missile fell into a vacant lot in the country's southeastern Gaziantep province, adding that there were no casualties or injuries.
Last week, a ballistic missile was also shot down by NATO defenses in Turkish airspace on March 4.
This development comes amid the ongoing US-Israeli attack on Iran, launched on February 28, which has reportedly killed around 1,300 people, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf states hosting US military assets.
