Kupang - The National Water Conservation Area Office (BKKPN) Kupang sent a team to identify a number of marine mammals of the whale type that were stranded on Mbadokai Beach, Deranitan Village, West Rote District, Rote Ndao Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.

"We have sent a team to the location to identify a number of whales," said Head of BKKPN Kupang Imam Fauzi, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, March 10.

This was conveyed in connection with reports of a number of whales whose number has not been confirmed stranded in Rote Ndao waters since Monday (9/3).

The stranded whales became a spectacle for the community in the area, because they were a special attraction.

Based on the initial report received from Lanal Rote Ndao, the number of stranded cows reached 50. However, according to Imam, this is not possible.

"If the number is 50 heads, it is too big. The team is still doing identification," he said.

However, he continued, 11 of them were found dead stranded. Several other tails are still alive but in critical condition due to injuries.

Regarding the cause of the stranded cows, the Imam said he still did not know, but the BKKPN had asked for help from veterinarians in Rote Ndao to perform necrosis, identify the cause.

"For now, the exact cause is still unknown why many whales are stranded," he said.

When they were first found, he said, fishermen and local residents had tried to escort them to a shallower sea but had difficulties.
