Quoted from the Police Public Relations Division website, the peak of the 2026 Lebaran homecoming flow is predicted to occur in two waves in March.

This was conveyed by National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo during a cross-sector coordination meeting for Operation Ketupat 2026 held at the PTIK Building, South Jakarta, Monday, March 2, 2026.

According to Sigit, the estimate is based on the results of a survey conducted by the National Police Traffic Directorate together with the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia. In addition, an analysis was also carried out by comparing the data on the number of travelers in 2025.

Based on the results of the study, the first wave of peak homecoming flows is estimated to occur on March 14 to 15, 2026.

On that date, the volume of vehicles on various major homecoming routes is predicted to increase significantly because many people have started to leave big cities to return home.

After that period, the government will also implement the Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy on March 16 and 17, 2026.

This policy allows some workers to continue to carry out their duties from any location, thus providing flexibility for people to travel early.

With this policy, it is estimated that a second wave of peak homecoming flows will occur on March 18 to 19, 2026.

Tips to Avoid Traffic Jams during Eid Homecoming

In order for the homecoming trip to remain comfortable, there are several tips that can be done to avoid congestion during the 2026 Lebaran homecoming flow, including:

Depart Early

If possible, travel early before the peak of the homecoming rush occurs. Departing on H-7 Lebaran usually makes the trip smoother because the volume of vehicles is not too crowded.
