Malang Police Seized 3 Kilograms of Fireworks Powder Ready to Distribute

MALANG - The Malang Police (Polres) confiscated three kilograms of ready-to-use firecracker powder from the hands of a resident of Ngadireso Village, Poncokusumo District, Malang Regency, East Java, with the initials BP (32).

Head of the Public Relations Section of the Malang Police, AKP Bambang Subinanjar, explained that the disclosure of the ownership of the firecracker powder began with a report from residents who immediately carried out an investigation and arrest of the BP at his residence in Ngadireso Village.

"We received information from the community, the investigation of the officers led to the suspect BP and was arrested at his house. There were approximately three kilograms of finished mercon powder (seized)," said Bambang as reported by ANTARA, Friday, February 27.

When arrested, said Bambang, the suspect did not resist at all.

In addition to ready-to-distribute firecracker powder, police officers from the Malang Police also confiscated six bundles of mercon incense at the suspect's residence. Then, confiscated one mobile phone unit which was suspected to be used by the suspect to make transactions.

His party assessed that BP's actions could threaten public safety, because it could trigger an explosion at any time.

Bambang revealed that the initial examination found that the suspect was suspected of making and controlling the firecracker powder to be traded.

He said the trade in ready-to-use firecracker powder was based on economic motives.

"(Fireworks) are sold again to make a profit," he said.

The disclosure of this case, he continued, is part of the implementation of the Pekat Semeru 2026 Operation which was held to maintain security and conducive areas during Ramadan until the eve of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.

Even though the suspect has been arrested and the evidence has been secured, the Malang Police ensured that they would continue the in-depth process to find out whether there was involvement in a certain network for the circulation of materials for making firecrackers.

For his actions, BP was charged with Article 306 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP) with a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
