JAKARTA - Iran has submitted a proposal to the United States that is referred to as a test of "seriousness" ahead of the third round of nuclear talks in Geneva.
Iran's state news agency, IRNA, reported that the draft proposal was submitted to the US through an Omani mediator ahead of the talks scheduled to take place at the Omani Embassy in Geneva, Switzerland.
"Rejecting it is the same as confirming the initial suspicion that the United States is not really committed to diplomacy and their diplomatic attitude is just a game," IRNA reported ahead of the decisive new round of negotiations.
However, the contents of the proposal were not disclosed.
Iranian Foreign Minister (Menlu) Abbas Araghchi arrived in Geneva on Wednesday evening accompanied by his deputy, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, and a team of nuclear, legal, and economic experts.
Araghchi then met with Oman's Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi to discuss the outline of the negotiations and the draft proposal.
Araghchi stressed that the success of the negotiations requires "the seriousness of the other party" and avoiding "contradictory behavior and attitudes," according to the media.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman stated that the two diplomats reviewed the proposal to be presented by the Iranian delegation in negotiations to reach an agreement.
The draft is based on the guiding principles agreed in the previous round.
Meanwhile, the US delegation led by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman after arriving in Geneva on Thursday morning.
Ahead of his departure, Araghchi said Iran would continue negotiations to reach a fair agreement as soon as possible.
He called the new round a "historic opportunity to reach an unprecedented agreement."
After the last round on February 17, both parties assessed the results of the talks as positive because they agreed on guiding principles.
The indirect talks took place amid a massive deployment of US military forces in the Persian Gulf and military exercises by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
