Debt Collector Who Stabbed a Customer in Banten Arrested in Semarang

JAKARTA - The Sub-Directorate of Jatanras of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Metro Jaya Police arrested the alleged perpetrator of stabbing a lawyer in the Kelapa Dua District, South Tangerang, which occurred on Monday, February 23, 2026.

"The alleged perpetrator with the initials JBI was arrested on Tuesday (24/2) at 23.50 WIB in Semarang, Central Java," said Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto in his statement in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Budi said the victim with the initials BS suffered serious stab wounds after being involved in a dispute with a number of unknown people who claimed to be debt collectors related to the withdrawal of vehicles.

Currently, he continued, the suspected stabbing perpetrator is undergoing an examination for further investigation. The police prioritize protecting the community and ensuring that every act of violence is processed in accordance with legal provisions.

"We respond quickly to every incident that causes unrest. Collection should not be carried out outside the legitimate mechanism, especially accompanied by intimidation or violence. Any violation will be dealt with firmly in accordance with legal provisions," he said.

Polda Metro Jaya also appealed to the public to remain calm and not easily influenced by unverified information.

"If you need police assistance or want to report a crime, the public can contact the 110 service, which is on call 24 hours a day," he said.

Previously, a video circulated on Instagram through the @fakta.indo account showing a commotion between a "debt collector" and a victim related to the withdrawal of a vehicle.

"A lawyer named Bastian Sori, SH, who is the manager of the Banten Provincial Congress of Indonesian Lawyers (KAI) DPD, was stabbed by a party who claimed to be a debt collector from Mandiri Tunas Finance," wrote the account.

The account also wrote that the incident occurred at the victim's residence at the Palem Semi Housing, Karawaci, Tangerang, on Monday (23/2), which was under the jurisdiction of the South Tangerang Police. The incident began when three suspected perpetrators forced their way into the yard of the house and wanted to pull the victim's car.

The victim refused the withdrawal because he considered the procedure was not in accordance with the law. A fight also occurred until one of the perpetrators stabbed. After the incident, the perpetrators fled, while the victim was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
