JAKARTA - The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) on Tuesday accused Britain and France of actively trying to provide nuclear bombs to Ukraine.

In a statement, the SVR claimed that Britain and France believed that by having nuclear weapons, Ukraine would be able to obtain more favorable terms for ending the conflict.

"It is believed that Ukraine needs to be supplied with 'magic weapons'. Kyiv will be able to claim more favorable terms for ending hostilities if it has an atomic bomb, or at least a so-called 'dirty' bomb," the statement said, according to Anadolu (24/2).

It said Germany "wisely refused to participate in this dangerous adventure."

According to the SVR, London and Paris are currently resolving issues related to the provision of these weapons and their delivery system to Kyiv.

"We are talking about the covert transfer of European components, equipment, and technology to Ukraine in this area. One of the options being considered is the French TN75 compact warhead for the M51.1 ballistic missile launched from a submarine," the statement said.

The SVR stressed, "Britain and France are aware that their plans imply a serious violation of international law," especially the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, and are associated with the risk of dismantling the global non-proliferation regime.

"In this case, the main efforts of the West are focused on making the emergence of nuclear weapons in Kyiv appear as the result of development by Ukraine itself," the SVR statement added.

Russia's intelligence service accused Paris and London of having "lost their common sense" and said they "hope to avoid responsibility in vain."

"Everything that is kept secret will surely be revealed. In the military, political, and diplomatic circles of Great Britain and France, there are many wise people who understand the danger posed by the reckless actions of their leaders to the entire world," the statement said.

In connection with the SVR statement, the Russian parliament's upper house, the Federation Council, urged lawmakers in London and Paris, as well as international organizations, to investigate the intentions of Britain and France to supply Kyiv with nuclear explosives.
