Bantul - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, reminded local residents to increase vigilance against the impact of extreme weather that is still potentially occurring in the next few days.
"We appeal to all residents to increase vigilance for mutual safety," said the Coordinator of the Disaster Management Operations Center (Pusdalops PB) of the Bantul BPBD, Aka Luk Luk Firmansyah, when confirmed in Bantul, Saturday.
According to him, this refers to information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) that extreme weather in the form of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is still potentially occurring in Bantul, so that the public is urged to be aware of the impact.
Steps to be aware of the impact of extreme weather, among others, are for the public to avoid risky areas such as avoiding large trees, billboards, and fragile buildings during heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.
"Meanwhile, for residents living on the banks of rivers and hillsides, be alert to floods and landslides by increasing preparedness if it rains for more than an hour without stopping," he said.
He said the community also maintains electricity safety at home by removing electronic devices if lightning begins to approach, and immediately turn off the electricity if water enters the house.
"When driving, avoid forcing driving when visibility is limited due to heavy rain. Find a safe shelter, not on the flyover or tree," he said.
Data from the BPBD Bantul Disaster Management Center (Pusdalops) stated that extreme weather on Wednesday (18/2) resulted in the incident of fallen trees in 85 points, which were spread across 15 sub-districts, then strong winds in seven locations spread across five sub-districts.
"The impact of the incident, especially the most access roads in 24 locations, 36 locations and including injured victims due to falling trees and possibly from affected houses. And the people affected by the disaster, both injured and treated, have assistance from the government," said Bantul Regional Secretary Agus Budiraharja.
