Ahead of Fasting, East Java Provincial Government Targets Normalization of Bapok Prices at the Beginning of Ramadan

SURABAYA - In order to reduce prices and maintain the stability of basic commodities ahead of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah in Surabaya, the Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa instructed the addition of supplies of pure chicken eggs and MinyaKita cooking oil.

"So every time before big days and fasting, this is a part that we always anticipate. Because the tendency of the community is to prepare a stock of two to three days at the beginning of fasting. Then the demand before fasting, besides having a blessing, megengan, they also usually stock two, three days because the demand increases," said Khofifah when reviewing the Dukuh Kupang Market Surabaya, East Java, Tuesday, February 17, quoted from ANTARA.

He explained that the increase in demand that was not followed by an increase in supply had an impact on the prices of a number of basic commodities, such as pure chicken meat, pure chicken eggs, and MinyaKita cooking oil. Meanwhile, the price of beef is still stable.

"I have asked for the price to be increased since yesterday, because the price then increased after the increase in demand was not followed by an increase in supply," he said.

Khofifah ensured that the East Java Provincial Government continued to strive to increase the distribution of basic goods so that prices would return to normal at the beginning of Ramadan, especially for MinyaKita commodities, pure chicken eggs, and pure chicken meat.

"Hopefully, at the beginning of Ramadan tomorrow, on the 2nd and 3rd of Ramadan, it will start to return to normal with the note that the supply from certain bapok has indeed been increased, including Minyakita, then eggs and chicken meat," he said.

Based on monitoring at the Dukuh Kupang Market in Surabaya on February 17, 2026, the price of premium rice was IDR 14,800-IDR 15,600 per kilogram with the highest retail price (HET) of IDR 14,900, rice Stabilization of Food Supply and Prices (SPHP) IDR 12,200 per kilogram with HET IDR 12,500, and granulated sugar IDR 17,500 per kilogram according to HET.

The price of bulk cooking oil was recorded at Rp20,000 per kilogram, while MinyaKita was Rp18,500 per liter with HET Rp15,700. Beef was Rp130,000 per kilogram (HET Rp140,000), broiler chicken meat was Rp42,000-Rp43,000 per kilogram (HET Rp40,000), and broiler chicken eggs were Rp31,000 per kilogram (HET Rp30,000).

A number of other commodities, such as wheat flour Rp12,000 per kilogram, large red chili Rp40,000 per kilogram, red chili Rp100,000 per kilogram (HET Rp40,000-Rp57,000), red onion Rp40,000 per kilogram (HET Rp36,500-Rp41,500), and garlic Rp35,000 per kilogram.

After reviewing the market, Governor Khofifah also distributed food packages to becak drivers around the Dukuh Kupang Market, Surabaya.
