YOGYAKARTA - BPJS Health participants in the Fee Assistance Recipient (PBI) segment do not need to worry if their membership status is deactivated. It is worth noting that BPJS PBI (also known as PBI JKN/National Health Insurance) is a health insurance program for poor and vulnerable people. PBI participants do not need to pay membership fees because this program is fully covered by the government.

Conditions for PBI Management that is Inactive

Referring to information shared by the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) RI on social media. BPJS Health participants in the PBI segment whose membership status is deactivated can reactivate as long as they fall into the following categories:

Located in desil 6-10 or desil has not been determined, but needs immediate health services due to chronic, catastrophic, or emergency medical conditions that threaten life. Not registered in DTSEN (National Social and Economic Single Data). It is a baby from a JKN PBI recipient whose membership status has been deleted.

It should be understood that the reactivation requirement does not apply to participants whose PBI JKN membership has been deactivated in the last six months.

"Participants who have been activated must update the data of PBI JK participants no later than two DTSEN update periods," wrote the Ministry of Social Affairs on Instagram via the @kemensosri account, quoted by VOI, Tuesday, February 2, 2026.

How to Manage Inactive PBI

Here's how to manage inactive PBI based on the applicable provisions:

Inactive BPJS PBI participants who will be treated can ask for a certificate of treatment from a hospital or health facility (health center and the like) Participants then report to the local social service to apply for BPJS PB reactivation. Next, the social service officer verifies the participant data. After verified, the social service officer will issue a reactivation certificate and enter the data into the SIKS-NGB application. Subsequently, the Ministry of Social Affairs verifies the documents for BPJS PB reactivation. The documents approved by the Ministry of Social Affairs are forwarded to BPJS Kesehatan for further verification. If approved, BPJS PBI JKN membership will be reactivated.

The Ministry of Social Affairs stated that JKN PBI recipients were still prioritized in desil 1-5, with a main focus on the most vulnerable groups of people.

How to Check BPJS PBI Membership Status

To find out the status of BPJS PBI membership being deactivated or not, participants can check it independently through the BPJS Health Pandawa WhatsApp service with the following steps.

Save the WhatsApp number of Pandawa BPJS Kesehatan: [phone] Open the WhatsApp application and send a message to the number Type Menu Select Information Select Check Membership Status Enter NIK Enter date of birth in the format requested

Next, the system will display complete information regarding the membership status, including whether BPJS PBI is still active or has been deactivated, complete with the type of membership.
