JAKARTA - A biological mother dared to sell her own child to be taken to the interior of Sumatra with a transaction value of tens of millions of rupiah. This child trafficking case was revealed by the West Jakarta Metro Police, and four children were successfully rescued.
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of West Jakarta Metro Police AKBP Arfan Zulkan Sipayung explained that the incident began on Friday, October 31, 2025, at around 07.00 WIB. At that time, the mother picked up her child from the victim's aunt and grandmother's house in the Taman Sari area, West Jakarta, on the pretext of inviting him to play.
However, until November 21, 2025, the child had never been returned to the family.
"Suspicion arose after the family received information that the victim's mother had received a large amount of money," Arfan said at a press conference at the Polda Metro Jaya, Friday, February 6, 2026.
The family then searched for the victim's mother. When he was found, the mother was with a man. When asked about her son's whereabouts, the man said that the victim's son was in Medan, at his relatives' house.
Feeling there was something wrong, the family took the two to the Taman Sari Police. In front of the officers, the mother finally admitted that she had sold her biological child to an intermediary.
From the results of the examination, it was revealed that the victim's child was sold in a chain. Initially, the mother along with a colleague sold the child for a price of around Rp. 17.5 million. The child was then sold again by the first buyer for Rp. 35 million, then sold again until it reached Rp. 85 million.
"The victim's child changed hands several times until he was finally taken to the interior of Sumatra by an intermediary," explained Arfan.
Following up on the findings, investigators from the West Jakarta Metro Police, in cooperation with the local police, conducted a search into the interior of Sumatra. At the location, the police managed to arrest two perpetrators and found the victim's child along with three other children who were also suspected of being victims of human trafficking.
"Officers managed to save four children, including the main victim's child. Currently, all children have been taken to Jakarta for protection," said Arfan.
He admitted that the enforcement process was hampered by the remote location which was difficult to reach and required a long travel time.
In handling this case, the police also coordinate with the Ministry of Empowerment of Women and Child Protection (KemenPPPA) and the Social Service for the recovery and protection of victims.
"We always coordinate with related agencies in every case involving the protection of women and children," he concluded.
