DENPASAR - Bali Governor Wayan Koster asked the new Head of the Bali Forestry and Environment Service (DKLH) to accelerate waste handling in accordance with President Prabowo's instructions.
"Yesterday the President gave good, open directions, including Bali. He reminded us about garbage, so we have to be serious about this. Please really handle the garbage quickly," said Governor Koster during the Inauguration and Oath Taking of the Bali Provincial Government's First High-ranking Officials, in Denpasar, Tuesday, February 3.
He appointed I Made Dwi Arbani who was previously the Head of the Bureau of Government and People's Welfare of the Bali Regional Secretariat to become the Head of the Bali DKLH.
Governor Koster immediately asked Dwi Arbani to accelerate waste handling with the existing pattern, namely handling from the source.
Starting from accelerating the use of modern teba or decomposers in households, sorting at TPS3R and TPST, to preparations ahead of the development of Waste Processing into Electricity (PSEL).
"Add more acceleration to modern teba, decomposer, and all kinds of things, this is the new head of the Department, especially in Denpasar and Badung," he said.
It is known that the direction for waste management in Bali was conveyed by President Prabowo in the 2026 Central Government and Regional Government Rakornas on Monday (2/2) yesterday which was also attended by Governor Koster.
Koster also approached the Minister of Environment (LH) and the Minister of Investment and Industrialization to discuss waste management on the Island of the Gods.
The two ministers agreed to start building the PSEL in Bali in March 2026.
"The plan is that because we are moving locations, it will be re-tendered, I said not to be in accordance with the schedule, he agreed, Danantara agreed and the minister agreed," he said as quoted by ANTARA.
The Bali Provincial Government estimates that if the process begins in March, the work will be completed in 12 months or completed in 2027.
"If the Astungkara road is operational by the end of 2027, then the problem of waste handling will be accelerated later," said Wayan Koster.
He thanked President Prabowo for his attention to Bali, the problem of garbage is a problem that occurs in many areas, but Bali gets the spotlight as a form of presidential concern.
According to Governor Koster, this direction is good as an emphasis that Bali is Indonesia's main tourism destination that needs to be well maintained, including from the problem of garbage.
The Bali Provincial Government recorded the number of foreign tourist visits throughout 2025 was still high, namely 6,948,754 visits or an increase of 9.72 percent from 2024.
"We must maintain our tourism ecosystem well, even though our 2025 tourists will increase significantly, not affected by the issue of garbage, but the garbage is still handled well and thoroughly," he said.
