JAKARTA - The Russian foreign intelligence agency revealed that France is preparing to carry out a neo-colonial coup on the African continent.
"The Emmanuel Macron government is actively seeking opportunities for 'political revenge' in Africa," the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) press service reported, quoted by Tass, Monday, February 2, quoted by Antara.
According to the SVR press bureau, France has recently suffered significant "losses" on the African continent due to patriotic forces that prioritize the interests of the people and "refuse to be puppets of the French financial and political oligarchy" that rule over a number of former French colonies in Africa.
"Whether inspired by the American operation to capture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro or imagining himself as the arbiter of African destinies, Macron has authorized his secret services to launch a plan to eliminate 'undesirable leaders' in Africa," the statement continued.
SVR also noted that there was evidence revealing that France was involved in a coup attempt in Burkina Faso on January 3, 2026 which was successfully thwarted.
"The rebels were tasked with killing President [Burkina Faso] Ibrahim Traore, one of the leaders of the struggle against neocolonialism. According to Paris' calculations, this would not only bring pro-French forces to power in Ouagadougou but would also deal a crushing blow to all supporters of sovereignty and Pan-African ideology on the continent," the statement added.
SVR then claimed that although the criminal plan failed, there were other similar attempts that France would make.
"Their focus is to destabilize the situation in "undesirable countries" in the Sahara-Sahel region with the help of local terrorist groups and the Ukrainian regime, which supplies the militants with drones and instructors," the statement continued.
"The main target of this group is Mali. Attacks on fuel trucks, attempts to blockade Malian cities, and terrorizing civilians are all aimed at one thing: creating conditions for the overthrow of President Assimi Goita. Paris continues to seek opportunities to sow chaos in the Central African Republic," said the SVR statement.
