JAKARTA - The price of beef in Jakarta's retail market has increased in recent times. The increase was recorded in the range of 7 to 15 percent, with the selling price reaching Rp. 150,000 per kilogram.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Food, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) Department, Hasudungan Sidabalok, said the spike in prices was triggered by the high price of live cattle at the producer level which exceeded the agreement of the National Food Agency (Bapanas).
"Indeed, currently there is an increase in the price of beef in the retail market of around 7 percent to 15 percent, with prices reaching Rp. 150,000 per kilogram," Hasudungan told reporters, Tuesday, January 27.
He explained that the price pressure came from upstream, especially the live cattle price which was previously above the reference price. This condition has a direct impact on the price of meat at the consumer level.
However, Hasudungan said the central government had taken corrective steps. As of January 22, 2026, the agreed live cattle price was reduced to Rp. 55,000 per kilogram.
"The good news is, as of January 22, the Central Government has agreed to reduce the live cattle price to Rp. 55,000/kg. We are optimistic that in the near future, prices in the market will stabilize again, especially before Eid al-Fitr," he said.
To mitigate the impact of rising prices on people's purchasing power, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has also prepared a number of intervention steps. One of them is to ensure that the Animal Cutting House (RPH) continues to run normally without adding inspection costs.
In addition, the DKI Provincial Government has partnered with Perumda Dharma Jaya to distribute live cattle at a lower price to reduce market prices.
"Perumda Dharma Jaya has distributed cows at a cheaper price (Rp54,000/kg live weight) to suppress market prices," said Hasudungan.
The DKI Provincial Government also provides a subsidized food program for certain residents. Through this scheme, beef is sold at a price far below the market.
"We provide beef at a price of Rp. 35,000/kg specifically for 1 million people who receive subsidies," he said.
On the other hand, interventions are also carried out through the Cheap Market Movement held at various points. Through the food BUMD, the public can buy beef at prices ranging from Rp. 109,000 to Rp. 139,000 per kilogram.
These steps are expected to maintain the stability of the price and supply of beef in Jakarta, especially ahead of the increased demand during Eid al-Fitr.
