Rupiah Nearly Rp17 Thousand, BPKH Ensures It Does Not Disturb Haji Financing 2026

JAKARTA - The Hajj Finance Management Agency (BPKH) ensures that the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate against the United States dollar (USD) to almost touching Rp. 17 thousand does not have a significant impact on the financing of the 2026 Hajj or 1447 Hijriah.

Meanwhile, the exchange rate of the US dollar against the rupiah on Sunday, January 25, moved in the range of Rp. 16,700-Rp. 16,900 at national banks.

According to the Head of the BPKH Implementation Agency, Fadlul Imansyah, the exchange rate assumption used in the planning of the Hajj Maintenance Cost (BPIH) is still at the level of IDR 16,500 per US dollar.

"If from us, the exchange rate assumption used is indeed Rp. 16,500. Alhamdulillah, the BPKH finance team has moved quickly since last year by collecting the needs in US dollars," said Fadlul in Yogyakarta, Sunday, quoted by Antara.

He explained that BPKH currently has sufficient foreign exchange reserves to meet the needs of the haj payment, so that it is not affected by short-term exchange rate fluctuations.

Fadlul also clarified information that had been circulating regarding BPKH which was said to have no US dollar reserves. According to him, in previous years BPKH had indeed faced regulatory constraints in the purchase of foreign exchange in large quantities.

"Previously, every large foreign exchange purchase had to be reported to Bank Indonesia with certain underlying. After we coordinated, Bank Indonesia now understands the routine needs of BPKH every year, which is worth around Rp. 18-20 trillion," he said.

Of the total needs, about 80 percent is in the form of foreign currencies, namely the US dollar and the Saudi riyal. With this understanding, Bank Indonesia gives flexibility to BPKH to purchase dollars gradually without having to submit underlying reports at the beginning.

"Now we are actually more prepared because we have secured supplies earlier than in previous years," he said.

With this readiness, BPKH ensures that the weakening of the rupiah will not interfere with the financing and implementation of the 2026 hajj.

Previously, Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives warned that BPKH should anticipate the impact of global economic uncertainty on the financing of the haj pilgrimage, especially due to fluctuations in the rupiah exchange rate.

Fluctuations in the value of the rupiah exchange rate have an impact on the implementation of the hajj because the hajj payment uses three currencies that are affected if there is uncertainty in the global economy.
