JAKARTA - A total of eight bodies of unlicensed gold miners were evacuated by the police on Tuesday, January 20, in the Mengkadai Village, Temenggung Village, Limun District, Sarolangun Regency, Jambidi.

Head of Public Relations of the Jambi Police, Police Commissioner General Erlan Munaji said that the eight bodies had been handed over to their respective families for burial. Currently, the police investigation process is still ongoing.

"We are still waiting for further developments, whether there are other victims in the incident," said Erlan Munaji in Jambi, quoted by Antara.

According to him, the personnel of the National Police and TNI are still handling the search and looking for other possible victims as well as conducting cleaning at the location of the unlicensed gold mine that killed 8 people and 4 others were injured.

The landslide occurred on Tuesday (20/1), around 17.00 WIB. Regarding its location, it is on the land owned by residents of Mengadai Village.

The incident was allegedly triggered by heavy rainfall which made the soil structure unstable and collapsed, burying the miners who were active inside the mine pit.

The eight mine workers who died were Kandar (40), Tabri (46), Sila (22), Oto (40), Iril (50), and Shirun (35). Meanwhile, the other two victims who died are still being identified.
