Flood and Landslide Alert Today! Heavy to Extreme Rain Potentially Occur in Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that various types of rain ranging from very heavy to extreme rain are potentially occurring in a number of regions in Indonesia on Wednesday, January 21.

BMKG Praktirawan Ranika Asti said that heavy to extreme rain potential could occur in West Java.

"Meanwhile, heavy to very heavy rain is predicted to hit Bengkulu, Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, Central Java, Yogyakarta Special Region, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, and Papua Mountains," said Ranika, quoted by Antara, Wednesday morning.

Next, Ranika also conveyed that moderate to heavy rain was potentially occurring in several other areas that were included in the alert category. For the western part of Indonesia, moderate rain is predicted to occur in Jakarta, while light rain is potentially raining on Bengkulu, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, Bandar Lampung, Serang, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Tanjung Selor.

In addition to rain, BMKG also predicts cloudy to cloudy conditions in a number of areas. These include Banda Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Jambi, Tanjung Pinang, Pontianak, Palangkaraya, and Banjarmasin. The potential for hazy air is to be wary of occurring in Samarinda.

Then for the eastern part of Indonesia, BMKG predicts that rain accompanied by lightning is potentially occurring in Kupang and Merauke. In addition, moderate intensity rain is predicted to rain on Mataram, Mamuju, Kendari, and Ternate.

Furthermore, Ranika said that BMKG also recorded the potential for light rain in Denpasar, Makassar, Palu, Gorontalo, Manado, Ambon, Sorong, Nabire, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya. Meanwhile, heavy cloudy conditions are expected to occur in Manokwari.
