JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) ensures full support to local governments and communities affected by the landslide disaster in Tempur Village, Jepara Regency, Central Java.

BNPB Head Suharyanto in a statement received by Antara, in Jakarta, Saturday, January 17, emphasized that there were three main emphases for local governments, namely handling the affected community to the maximum, meeting basic needs, and accelerating the opening of access and repair of infrastructure.

The landslide in Jepara Regency occurred on Friday, January 9 and affected four villages in three sub-districts. One of the impacts was the closure of access to Tempur Village due to the landslide material pile.

"Especially at this point in time (Tempur Village), what must be handled to the maximum is the human, the people," he said.

According to him, although the damaged houses in Tempur Village were recorded as many as 13 families, the local government could facilitate the relocation of residents, but BNPB was ready to help build houses for relocated residents.

"It doesn't have to build many houses. One or two houses are okay, the most important thing is that the community is handled," he said.

BNPB also ensures that the basic needs of affected residents are fully met in the last 24 hours have been distributed with logistical assistance and there will be additional assistance if there are still shortages, including for non-food needs.

"Basic needs are not only food and drink, but also clothing, bedding, medicine, blankets, as well as disease prevention and cold weather equipment. It must be met," he said.

Regarding access to the area, Suharyanto appreciated the efforts of the local government which had deployed heavy equipment to open a road closed by a landslide. He emphasized that BNPB was ready to add support for heavy equipment and financing for emergency bridge repairs if necessary.
