Inaugurates Batu Licin Dam, Pramono Anung Free Fishing for Residents

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung inaugurated the Batu Licin Dam in Cilangkap, Cipayung District, East Jakarta. The dam, which was previously named Giri Kencana Dam, was opened to the public and can be used by residents as an activity space, including for fishing without charge.

"Please use it, including for fishing, and I ask that it be free of charge. However, the public must also work together to maintain this public facility so that it remains organized and sustainable," said Pramono at the location, Monday, January 12.

Batu Licin reservoir has an area of about 4.5 hectares with a water catchment area of 2.7 hectares. Pramono said that this reservoir not only functioned as a flood control infrastructure, but also as a public space for residents around.

Pramono explained that the construction of the reservoir is part of efforts to manage water resources to reduce the risk of flooding and flooding, especially in the East Jakarta area.

"Since the beginning of my term, the flood problem has been one of my main concerns. Therefore, the construction of the reservoir is carried out seriously and planned. Currently, there are nine reservoirs that have been built and spread in East Jakarta, South Jakarta, and West Jakarta, with the main goal of reducing flooding in densely populated residential areas," he said.

Based on residents' statements, the Cilangkap area was previously often flooded during heavy rains. With a capacity of around 92,000 cubic meters and a depth of six meters, the Batu Licin Dam is considered capable of significantly reducing the potential for flooding.

In addition to serving as a water reservoir, this reservoir is also equipped with a number of public facilities, such as a jogging track, basketball court, mosque, and a recreational area for residents.

"The existence of this reservoir has a positive impact on the surrounding community. In addition to functioning technically, this area is also a comfortable public space. I hope that the other seven reservoirs that are being and will be inaugurated can be immediately utilized by the community," he added.

Pramono emphasized that the construction of the reservoir is part of the medium-term flood control strategy in line with the normalization program of the Ciliwung River, Sunter River, and Krukut River.

"With the support of the existing pump system and daily monitoring of rainfall and potential rob, thank God, if there is a puddle, within one to one and a half hours it can be handled," he explained.

He added that before the reservoir was built, the area did not have adequate infiltration and water retention areas. The presence of the Batu Licin Reservoir as a new water catchment area is expected to strengthen the flood control system in the surrounding area.

Regarding the development of reservoirs in other areas, Pramono said that five reservoirs in East Jakarta had been completed, followed by two reservoirs in South Jakarta and two reservoirs in West Jakarta. These reservoirs are expected to increase water capacity and strengthen Jakarta's resilience against floods.
