JAKARTA - The Transportation Office (Dishub) of DKI Jakarta has awarded four South Jakarta Transportation Office officers who thwarted an alleged armed robbery against an elderly man and his grandson during the implementation of the Car Free Day (CFD) on Jalan HR Rasuna Said, Sunday, July 19.
The award was handed over by the Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office, Budi Awaludin, in a special appeal at the South Jakarta Transportation Office, Jalan MT Haryono, Pancoran.
The action of the officers also resulted in the arrest of a suspected perpetrator along with evidence in the form of a sharp-edged weapon, a motorcycle, and three mobile phones suspected of being the result of a crime.
Budi said the quick action of the officers showed that the role of Dishub was not only to regulate traffic, but also to maintain public safety in public spaces.
"This morning we held a special appeal to give appreciation to the four officers of the South Jakarta Transportation Division who had thwarted the act of snatching against an elderly person and his grandson. We really appreciate this action because the officers not only carry out their duties as traffic controllers, but also provide a sense of safety and comfort for the community," said Budi in his statement, Monday, July 20.

One of the officers who received the award, Muhammad Nahrowi, said the incident began when he and his colleagues were securing the implementation of CFD in the Jalan HR Rasuna Said area. While on duty, they heard the screams of residents who were victims of snatching.
"When we were on duty, suddenly there were residents shouting 'robbery'. The perpetrator then ran towards our position. At that time, there happened to be a vehicle that was about to pass through so the perpetrator was panicked and fell. We and the residents immediately secured the perpetrator," said Nahrowi.
Nahrowi explained that there were two perpetrators. However, only one person was successfully secured, while the other one fled.
From the hands of the perpetrator, the officers confiscated one machete, one motorcycle unit, and three mobile phones which were suspected to be the result of a crime. The victim, an elderly man with his grandson, was successfully rescued and did not suffer any injuries. Meanwhile, the alleged perpetrator has been handed over to the Setiabudi Police to undergo further legal proceedings.
Nahrowi added that the arrest process took place without any officers being injured even though the perpetrator was known to carry a sharp weapon.
