JAKARTA - The East Jakarta Environmental Service (Sudin LH) officially closed the temporary shelter (TPS) operation around the Sewa Simple Housing (Rusunawa) Small Industrial Village (PIK) 2, Penggilingan Village, Cakung.
"The last cleaning was carried out on Wednesday, and the TPS in RW 10, Penggilingan Village, we officially closed. Furthermore, the waste disposal of residents was diverted to the Rawa Terate TPS," said Head of the Cakung District Environmental Implementation Unit Encep Suryana, ANTARA, Friday.
The closure was carried out after the TPS was complained about by residents because it caused an unpleasant smell due to piles of garbage.
The land of the former TPS was then converted into a green open space that can be used by the community and residents of PIK 2 Rusunawa.
"To overcome this (garbage smell), we decided to close the TPS and divert garbage to another location," said Encep.
He explained that the TPS cleaning had been carried out thoroughly. In the last transportation phase, his party deployed eight garbage trucks to carry the remaining piles of garbage to the Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Treatment Plant (TPST), Bekasi.
Furthermore, in order to prevent the TPS from being used again, the LH Jaktim Sub-Director put up a banner prohibiting the disposal of garbage at the location.
Encep also hopes that the community will comply with the appeal so that the cleanliness and comfort of the environment are maintained.
Previously, the East Jakarta City Government (Pemkot) had diverted the function of the TPS land around Rusunawa PIK 2, Penggilingan, Cakung, into a green open space.
"For the garbage in the apartment, so later the location will not be used as a garbage disposal site anymore, but will be diverted into a green space," said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin, Tuesday (6/1).
This policy, he said, responded to residents' complaints about piles of garbage that caused a pungent smell to the upper floors of the residence.
He also ensured that his party had prepared an alternative garbage disposal site which was not far from the apartment.
"For the garbage in the apartment, later the location will not be used as a garbage disposal site anymore, but will be moved to the nearest place and we have found the location," said Munjirin.
In addition to moving the TPS, the East Jakarta City Government also prepared a further arrangement step in the area of the former waste pile around Rusunawa PIK 2.
Furthermore, the Jaktim City Government will immediately close and tidy up the land before it is used as a green open space.
"We will later meet and later cover it with red soil, and later we will plant it so that the area is green," said Munjirin.
