Nataru Accident Down 27.12 Percent, DPR Encourages Strategies to be Implemented During Lebaran 2026

Member of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Syafiuddin, appreciates the government's performance for its success in reducing the number of accidents and fatalities during the Christmas 2025 and New Year (Nataru) 2026 period. He asked that this success be improved in handling the 2026 Lebaran Homecoming.

This was conveyed by Syafiuddin following the statement of the National Police Deputy Chief, Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho, who revealed that the fatality rate of traffic accidents during Nataru 2025 had decreased by 27.12 percent. Meanwhile, the overall accident rate decreased by about 7 percent compared to the previous year.

"This decline is a positive achievement and should be appreciated. This shows improvements in traffic management, supervision, and coordination between agencies during the Nataru period," Syafiuddin told reporters, Monday, January 5.

According to Syafiuddin, this success is inseparable from the implementation of various security strategies, traffic engineering, and the readiness of infrastructure and transportation facilities.

The success was partly due to the implementation of a policy prohibiting three-axle trucks from operating on toll roads during the Christmas holiday period.

"Without operating on the toll road, of course, the accident also decreases. From the fatality of the victim, it is quite encouraging, so we can reduce two digits, 27.12 percent," he continued.

Even so, he emphasized that efforts to improve safety must continue to be carried out sustainably.

"The strategies that have been implemented in Nataru 2025 need to be evaluated and improved so that they can be applied more optimally during the Lebaran homecoming in March 2026, which usually has a much higher level of community mobility," he said.

The PKB legislator from the East Java XI District also emphasized the importance of hard work and synergy between the central government, local government, the police, and other related stakeholders to ensure that the homecoming takes place safely and comfortably.

"The government must continue to work hard. Public safety is the top priority. We hope that this trend of accident reduction can continue to be maintained, even improved, on the upcoming Lebaran homecoming momentum," said Syafiuddin.
