JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian said that the government has so far produced 63 thousand free population documents for disaster-affected residents in several areas of Sumatra, as part of accelerating the recovery of population administration.

"For those who are damaged, we will repair it and it is already running, and until today, 63,230 documents have been produced and all of them are free of charge," said Tito in a press conference on Post-disaster Recovery and Strategic Plan before the End of Year at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, Monday, December 29, reported by ANTARA.

Tito explained that since November 15, the Ministry of Home Affairs has deployed nine teams to support population services and civil registration in 52 affected districts and cities. The support is focused on replacing documents for residents who are lost or damaged due to disasters.

Until now, he said, more than 60 thousand population documents have been reproduced without being charged.

The documents include family cards, electronic ID cards, birth certificates, death certificates, and other population documents as needed by the community.

"We will continue to work, which means helping people who have lost documents, so that they have their document data and once again are not charged," he said.

In its implementation, he continued, most of the population and civil registration units (dukcapil) in the affected areas can still operate or are in the process of recovery.

Of the 52 affected areas, only three district heads were not able to run optimally, namely in Aceh Tamiang Regency, East Aceh Regency, and Langsa City.

Meanwhile, the dukcapil units in other areas, including in North Sumatra and West Sumatra, were reported to still be running, with some technical problems that have been repaired.

"In North Sumatra it is also good. The city of Sibolga has a little problem but we have fixed it. Then if in West Sumatra, thank God there are no broken equipment," said Tito.
