JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) has recorded a significant increase in cases of drug abuse throughout 2025, including among children.
Head of the DKI Jakarta BNNP, Brigjen Pol Awang Joko Rumitro, revealed that based on data from four rehabilitation institutions for drug abuse, the number of rehabilitation clients in 2025 reached 8,865 people. This figure is increasing compared to 2024 which was recorded as 6,718 clients.
"There was an increase of 2,147 clients, and this is certainly a serious concern for us," said Awang at a press conference on the implementation of the program to prevent the illicit circulation of narcotics at the BNNP DKI Jakarta Office, Cideng, Central Jakarta, Monday, December 29, 2025.
The increase was also seen in the number of children undergoing rehabilitation. In 2024, a total of 236 children were rehabilitated, while in 2025 the number rose to 322 children.
Of the total 322 children, 53 children aged 13 to 15 years, while 269 children are in the age range of 16 to 18 years. Meanwhile, rehabilitation clients over 18 years old are recorded as many as 8,643 people.
In addition to rehabilitation efforts, BNNP DKI Jakarta also conducted urine tests on students at a number of schools. The results, 156 students were found positive for drug use. The most common types of substances found were methamphetamine (MET) and amphetamine (AMP).
Awang explained that the results of the screening showed that most students had a history of using cigarettes, vapes, and drinking alcohol.
Furthermore, based on the results of research from the University of Indonesia (UI), the welfare factor is one of the causes of children falling into drug abuse. In addition, the role of parents in supervising and mentoring children is considered very crucial.
"Some children are also exposed to narcotics because their living environment is close to drug villages. They are often invited by older people around them," concluded Awang.
