JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has recorded a decrease in the use of intercity buses and private vehicles from Jakarta to outside the area during the Christmas holiday period 2025. This decline can be seen from the data on passenger movement at terminals and traffic volume at major toll gates, compared to the same period last year.
Monitoring was carried out by the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office (Dishub) during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year Transportation period, with a provisional recapitulation from December 18 to 25, 2025.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office Syafrin Liputo said that community mobility during Christmas this year is still under control, in line with the strengthening of supervision at various transport nodes and cross-sector coordination.
"The data we have collected shows that the mobility of the community during Christmas 2025 is dynamic and under control. This is the result of the readiness of all levels and solid collaboration between the government, transportation operators, and related authorities," said Syafrin in his statement, Friday, December 26.
Until December 25, 2025 at 23.59 WIB, seven Inter-City Inter-Provincial (AKAP) terminals in DKI Jakarta recorded a total of 11,516 passengers. Of these, 4,618 passengers arrived and 6,898 passengers departed.
Even though there was an increase of 78.82 percent compared to normal days, the number of AKAP passengers actually decreased by 3.85 percent compared to the 2024 Christmas period. This decline indicates a reduction in community movement using intercity buses from Jakarta.
Syafrin said that several terminals, such as the Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal and Tanjung Priok Terminal, had recorded a surge in passengers compared to normal days. However, overall distribution of movement was considered more even.
Cumulatively, in the period from December 18-24, 2025, the total passengers at the seven AKAP terminals reached 83,090 people. This figure is down 16.48 percent compared to the 2024 Christmas period.
In addition to bus transportation, a decrease was also seen in the movement of private vehicles. On Christmas Day, the traffic volume at the four main toll gates in Jakarta recorded 134,429 vehicles entering and 184,573 vehicles leaving.
Monitoring through 18 sensor points of the Traffic Control System (SPLL) recorded about 2.1 million vehicles entering and leaving Jakarta on December 25, 2025. Compared to the normal period, the volume of vehicles both incoming and outgoing decreased.
DKI Jakarta's Traffic Management Center also recorded a 0.81 percent decrease in vehicle volume on toll roads in the period from December 18-24, 2025. This condition shows that traffic flows are relatively more controlled than the previous year.
"Vehicle movement is observed to be stable, with variations in increases and decreases at a number of toll gates compared to the previous year," said Syafrin.
On the other hand, there was a significant increase in the marine transportation sector to the Thousand Islands. On Christmas Day 2025, it was recorded that 4,516 passengers used marine transportation, up 313.78 percent compared to normal days and almost 80 percent compared to Christmas 2024.
Meanwhile, long-distance train services at Gambir Station, Pasar Senen, and Jatinegara served a total of 62,625 passengers on December 25, 2025. This figure increased by 1.33 percent compared to the previous period, with operations reported to be running smoothly.
Syafrin emphasized that safety supervision remained a concern during the year-end holiday period. DKI Jakarta's Dishub carried out ramp checks and health checks on vehicle crew on a regular basis.
As of December 25, 2025, a total of 1,148 vehicles have undergone ramp checks and 381 vehicle crews have undergone health tests.
"Safety remains our top priority. Through ramp checks and driver health tests, we ensure that all modes of transportation operating during Christmas and New Year's are in excellent condition. Monitoring and evaluation will continue until the peak of the 2026 New Year's holiday," added Syafrin.
