JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) together with the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) is preparing an emergency satellite-based connectivity service to support communication at health service points.
"In accordance with the functions of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, we try to provide reinforcement in the telecommunications network, and there are already several installations that have been installed, including Starlink. We are also coordinating with the operator to restore BTS around the hospital," said Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria in his statement in Jakarta, Thursday.
He explained, since the disaster, the government has immediately taken steps to clean up and repair equipment so that medical services can resume operations, including ensuring connectivity availability. He emphasized that Kemkomdigi together with mobile operators continued to repair the affected BTS.
"Alhamdulillah the improvement has started to be progressive. Currently, the uptime for telecommunications networks in Aceh Tamiang reaches approximately 70 percent and we try to continue to keep it stable in the future," said Nezar.
According to him, health services at the Aceh Tamiang Regency General Hospital (RSUD) resumed after previously stopping operations due to the impact of the Sumatra flood.
Nezar said that medical facilities, such as hospitals and health centers, were a priority to be addressed immediately because they concerned the safety of residents.
The development of the process of restoring telecommunications facilities and public health was discussed by Nezar, Aceh Tangguh Volunteer, and the ranks and volunteers of health workers at the Aceh Tamiang Hospital in a coordination dialogue with Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
"We are discussing the strengthening of telecommunications infrastructure. We are also ready to support inter-agency interoperability connections so that the recovery work in Aceh Tamiang Regency can be accelerated," said Nezar.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the government was focusing on the recovery of all hospitals and health centers affected by disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra provinces.
"All the hospitals affected are 31 and we target to operate as soon as possible. I appreciate that within two weeks, 31 hospitals can operate," said Budi.
Budi added that the recovery was carried out gradually with the priority of emergency services so that the public would still receive medical treatment.
"At the Aceh Tamiang Regional Hospital, a temporary installation was initially made which was also completed and is now operational. I also ask for coordination of the next stages, namely the repair of medical facilities," he said.
The restoration of the network and medical services is carried out to ensure that the residents of Aceh Tamiang continue to have access to health services in the midst of the recovery process after the flood.
