JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has started signing a flood and rob control program with the name JakTirta. This project will be carried out starting in early 2026 and is projected to be completed in 2027.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Office Ika Agustin Ningrum explained that this project is different from the continuation of the normalization of the Ciliwung River and the Krukut River, which is currently in the process of land acquisition.

"This JakTirta project is different from the normalization of the Ciliwung and Krukut rivers. If this project is more inclined to increase the capacity of existing rivers. This package is in Angke River and in Pesanggerahan River," Ika told reporters, Wednesday, December 24.

In addition to river revitalization, the DKI Provincial Government will also build artificial ponds or reservoirs in Kebagusan, Pondok Labu, and Sunter Hulu. Ika said the land and building release of residents for the construction of these ponds had been completed.

"The JakTirta project has completed the land acquisition process and only needs construction," said Ika.

To be more precise, the package of activities in the JakTirta project consists of nine packages of polder system development in 13 locations with the addition of 63 new pumps, two packages of pond development in three locations, two packages of coastal protection embankments along two kilometers, and revitalization of rivers along two kilometers.

For the implementation of the work, a number of state-owned enterprises and private companies are involved as providers of construction services. These companies include PT Adhi Karya, PT Brantas Abipraya, PT Nindya Karya, PT Pembangunan Perumahan (PP), PT Jaya Konstruksi, PT Modern Widya Technical, and PT Suburo Jayana Indah Corp.

Previously, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung said that the project was named JakTirta, as an effort to strengthen Jakarta's resilience against the threat of floods and floods. This program is designed for the medium term, not reactive emergency handling.

"The value of this signing is IDR 2.62 trillion to strengthen the resilience of the city of Jakarta against floods and floods. For handling flood projects in Jakarta, we call it JakTirta. Why JakTirta? Jak is Jakarta, Tirta is water," said Pramono.

According to him, the signing of the contract was carried out early so that the construction process would not accumulate at the end of the budget year. Because, Pramono assessed that this practice often caused problems in absorbing the budget and excessive workload at the end of the year.

"Because this is indeed a medium-term handling and as I said I allow the contract or the process to be carried out earlier, not piled up at the end of the year and then caused an extraordinary rush in November and December," said Pramono.

The former Cabinet Secretary emphasized that reactive flood management is no longer relevant for Jakarta, which faces regular flood and rob challenges. Therefore, the implementation of this multi-year project is expected to improve water control infrastructure that can reduce the volume of Jakarta floods.

"The handling of floods in Jakarta, once again, cannot be short-term or if a flood occurs, we will rush," said Pramono.
