'Raid on Drug Den' Operation Leads to 34 Suspects in 72 Days

JAKARTA - The Medan City Police (Polrestabes) in North Sumatra arrested 34 suspects in a drug case in its jurisdiction for 72 days.

Medan Police Chief Kombes Jean Calvjin said the 34 suspects were from 24 drug cases that were successfully revealed by the local police.

"The police managed to uncover 24 drug cases and arrested 34 suspects from various locations that were the target of the operation," said Jean Calvjin, ANTARA, Sunday, December 21.

Jean said the disclosure of the drug case was carried out from October 9, 2025 to December 19, 2025 by raiding drug dens.

"Drugs, only for special purposes. It's related to three things. For the disclosure of this case, we call it a raid on a drug den," he said.

Jean said the first target was the drug barracks area, which was generally located on vacant land or remote gardens, then targeting locations that functioned as drug kiosks, both houses and shops that were modified as transaction sites.

Furthermore, he said, there are a number of nightclubs that are indicated to be related to the circulation of narcotics.

"During the raid on the drug den, the police not only secured the suspects, but also found various equipment used for drug abuse activities," he said.

In the disclosure of the drug case, Jean said there was a new pattern used by the drug syndicate to deceive officers.

He said the perpetrators were known to have an organized surveillance and security system ranging from the use of handy talky to layered surveillance within the drug area.

In addition, Jean added that several drug dens networks use technology to monitor the movements of officers.

Police also found a location that was deliberately designed to endanger the lives of officers by running electricity to a wire fence around the drug barracks.

"In the field, they often face resistance. Starting from obstruction, throwing, to forced attempts to recapture the suspects and evidence. In fact, in some cases, perpetrators have deliberately burned public facilities and facilities belonging to the National Police," he said.

Therefore, his party emphasized that it would continue to increase the intensity of law enforcement against drug networks, especially those that endanger the safety of the community and law enforcement officers.

"This should not happen again. The disclosure was made in order to eradicate drugs. This operation involved the Medan Police Narcotics Unit with the support of the Criminal Investigation Unit," he said.
