JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) continues to accelerate the handling of national road sections affected by floods and landslides in Sumatra.

The focus of the handling in the North Sumatra province is currently directed at the critical sections of Tarutung-Sibolga and Tarutung-Sipirok to ensure that regional connectivity is maintained. Reported from official data from the Ministry of PUPR, Tuesday, December 16, on the Tarutung-Sibolga corridor, handling is carried out at a number of critical points from the direction of Tarutung with a total length of the affected section of about 14 kilometers.

Meanwhile, access to Sibolga City can still be reached by the public through the Sidikalang-Barus-Sibolga alternative route. Until now, the estimated target for completion has not been determined because there are still several points that have not been identified in detail and the limitation of access to heavy equipment to the affected locations.

On the other hand, the affected section along the 2.4 kilometer Tarutung-Sipirok corridor is now handled from two directions. To support community mobility, access to Sipirok from the Balige direction remains open through the 114 kilometer Siborong-borong-Pangaribuan-Sipirok Provincial Road as an alternative route.

The government itself targets the completion of the improvement of critical road traffic affected by the disaster in mid-January next year.
