JAKARTA - The government has designated the Ubek Dayak from North Kalimantan (Kaltara) as an Indonesian Intangible Cultural Heritage (WBTbI) and Narit Pa'manit Stone as a national Cultural Heritage.

The determination was announced at the National Level Cultural Heritage Appreciation event at Building A of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 16.

The certificate of determination was handed directly by the Minister of Culture Fadli Zon to the Deputy Governor (Wagub) of Kaltara Ingkong Ala who was present representing the Provincial Government (Pemprov) and the Kaltara community.

The Deputy Governor of North Maluku, Ingkong Ala, said that this determination was the state's recognition of the original cultural wealth of North Maluku and at the same time strengthened efforts to preserve regional cultural heritage at the national level.

"On behalf of the Provincial Government and the Governor of North Maluku, I express my appreciation and gratitude for this national recognition, hopefully this can increase the concern and pride of the people of North Maluku towards local culture that has been passed down from generation to generation," said Ingkong Ala.

"It is hoped that with the establishment of these two cultural heritages, it can spur the spirit of preservation, deeper research, and the development of cultural tourism and creative economy based on local wisdom in Kaltara," he continued.

The Deputy Governor of Ingkong emphasized that the preservation of cultural heritage is not only oriented towards protection, but must also be able to provide real benefits to the community.

"Intangible cultural heritage has great potential to drive the growth of the creative industry and increase the economic value of the region," he said.

The Deputy Governor of Ingkong explained that the development of culture based on local wisdom can become one of the drivers of the economy on the Benuanta Earth if it is managed sustainably.

"Let's continue to strive to develop culture and revive the nation's cultural heritage as a potential to increase economic growth," he said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon said the designation of cultural heritage and cultural reserves is a first step towards more professional and productive management. This is different from natural resources which have limitations.

"Cultural heritage can become a long-term economic support in the region, when the textiles of a region are designated as Indonesian intangible cultural heritage, this will be a source of pride and trigger the growth of cultural economy and cultural industries in various regions, including MSMEs," he explained.

Fadli Zon emphasized that intangible cultural heritage has great potential in increasing economic value and encouraging the growth of the national creative industry.

"The designation of this cultural heritage is an initial step as a new business model and opens up opportunities for economic drivers in the region," he said.
